We are very proud to announce that Dr. Gustavo Turecki was just named as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC). Fellowship to the RSC is the highest academic honour in Canada and is awarded based on the recognition of an individual’s scholarly excellence. The RSC is comprised of three academies: Arts, Humanities and Sciences, and its Fellowship includes over 2,400 Canadian scholars, who are leaders in their field and have made remarkable contributions in the arts, the humanities, the sciences, and Canadian public life.

“This year, the Royal Society of Canada welcomes an outstanding cohort of artists, scholars and scientists, all of whom have excelled in their respective disciplines and are a real credit to Canada,” says RSC President Jeremy McNeil.

Dr. Turecki’s nomination to the RSC Fellowship marks a major accomplishment in his career, which has been focused on studying the biological causes of depression and suicide to improve prevention and treatments. Dr. Turecki is the Scientific Director of the Douglas Research Centre and is a Professor and the Departmental Chair of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Major Depressive Disorder and Suicide, and the Director of the McGill Group for Suicide Studies.

On Friday, November 19, 2021, the RSC will welcome the Class of 2021 new RSC Fellows and new Members of the RSC College and present awards for outstanding research and scholarly achievement. We hope you will join us in celebrating the RSC Class of 2021, whether from home, from campus, or in Montreal.
